Welcome to Anholter Schweiz Biotope Wildlife Park
The Biotopwildpark, also affectionately called "The Showcase of Nature" or "Anholter Schweiz", is definitely worth a visit! The extensive park landscape with its over 100-year history is a retreat that invites you to switch off and relax. Guests can enjoy the unique nature and discover the local wildlife with more than 300 animals and 50 animal species. Feeding the animals is permitted, provided that the food offered on site is used for this purpose.
The lakeside landscape with the "Swiss cottage", which was modelled on Lake Lucerne, is also exciting and special.
History informationDuring the English garden movement, Prince Leopold zu Salm-Salm built a replica of Lake Lucerne with the Swiss cottage and a rocky landscape in 1893 in memory of his honeymoon. Rock and wood were transported by ship and horse-drawn carts from Switzerland to the Lower Rhine. For its 100th anniversary, this listed English garden was expanded into a 56-hectare biotope wildlife park.
Guests will find six kilometres of easily accessible sandy paths here, which blend in with typical Lower Rhine and Münsterland landscapes and biotopes, and along which are spacious animal enclosures and large aviaries.
