Welcome to Oberwald Zoo

Oberwald Zoo was created in 1965 to make room in Karlsruhe Zoo and Stadtgarten for the 1967 Federal Garden Show. Today, it has become an integral part of the city's cultural and recreational facilities.

In the middle of a large enclosed recreational forest close to the city, weather-resistant wild animals of temperate and cold zones live on 16 hectares, each in outdoor enclosures several thousand square meters in size.

Everyone is welcome to view the animals in their natural habitats. You can cycle, walk and even take your dog (on a lead) with you. At Oberwald Animal Park, people and animals are meant to be in the fresh, unspoiled forest air. The animal enclosures are deliberately left raw and uncultivated on natural forest ground.
